January 10th: January 2nd is officially the third anniversary of Living Hope. So we have planned a special congregational meeting and presentation of the 2010 budget. Jan. 17th through Apr. 18th: Galatians - The Gospel of Christ in 3 Parts - In one of the New Testament's earliest letters, the Apostle Paul combats the infiltration of false teaching into the Galatian churches, by explaing the basic truth abotu the Gospel of Christ - where it comes from, what it is, and how we live each day. Join us as we tackle this wonderful letter. - Jan. 17: There is only 1 Gospel (1:1-10) - Jan. 24: The Gospel is from God, not men (1:11 - 2:10) - Jan. 31: You can't have it both ways (2:11-21) - Feb. 7: Guest Pastor Jon Ashley - Feb. 14: Faith vs. Works (3:1-14) - Feb. 21: Promise vs Law (3:15-22) - Feb. 28: Heirs vs Slaves (3:23 - 4:7) - Mar. 7: God vs Elements (4:8-20) - Mar. 14: Spirit vs Flesh (4:21 - 5:1) - Mar. 21: Consequence of Circumcision (5:2-12) - Mar. 28: True Christian Freedom (5:13-26) - Apr. 11: Sharing Burdens (6:1-10) - Apr. 18: Conclusion: about boasting (6:11-18) Apr. 25th through Jul. 18th: Genesis, pt. 3 - We will retun to Genesis and the pre-history of Israel, as we hear the story of Isaac's son Jacob. Now, Jacobis revered as one fo the Patriarchs of Israel. But sometimes he seems like ... well, a putz. Is this a cautionary tale? What do Jacob's mistakes teach us about following God. Let's find out together. - Apr. 25: Jacob vs. Esau (Gen. 25) - May 2: Isaac Blesses Jacob (Gen. 27) - May 9: The Angry Eldest Son (Gen 27 cont.) - May 16: JAcob's Ladder (Gen. 28) - May 23: Jacob Gets Married ... sort of (29) - May 30: God Provides Children (Gen. 30) - June 6: Jacob Prospers (Gen. 30) - June 13: Jacob Heads Home (Gen. 31) - June 20: Jacob Wrestles with God (Gen. 32) - June 27: A Brotherly Reunion (Gen. 33) - July 4: Independance Day - July 11: The Rape of Dinah (34) - July 18: Conclusion (Gen. 35-36) July 25th - Oct. 3rd: Either Ephesians or Hebrews - Pastor Dave is chomping at the bit to tackle both letters. Check back often to see which one will follow Genesis. Oct. 10th into Advent: Esther - Esther is a confusing, difficult little book for many reasons. Most peopel scratch their heads and wonder what it's doign int he Bible. On one hand, it never mentions the name of God, and was the only Old Testament book left out of the scrolls found at QUmran near the Dead Sea. On the other hand, it explains the source of the festival of Purim, and shows another exampled of God caring for His people, even in exile. We'll explore this quirky story as we move into Advent. Pastor Dave is already thinking about next year. Here is a tentative schedule for 2011. Check back often for updates. Jan. 10th - Mar. 7th: Genesis, pt. 4 - Next year we finally wrap up the Book fo Genesis, byt examining the fourth great Patriarch of Israel - Joseph. Mar. 14th - Apr. 4th: Philippians - Paul's letter to the Philippians is one fo the greatest we have, both for its theological significance, and how it encourages all Christians to live in the face of persecution. Join us! Apr. 11th - July 4th: Hosea - The Book of Hosea might be one of the most beautiful expressions of God's love. It is impossible to read this letter and not hear the Father's heart break for His people. July 11th - Sept. 19th: Ephesians or Hebrews- Ephesians may be on eof ht egreat summaries of Paul's theology. It's packed, and we'll spend some time in it next fall. Unless, of course, Pastor Dave just can't wait to get into Hebrews! |
