Dear Living Hopefuls,

Please take a minute and watch this video on how to pack the Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. This Sunday (November 20, 2011) is our final packing day for this year. Please bring all prepacked boxes as well as empty boxes and items to fill them. The same as you did in July. Also remember to donate online and print out the EZ “Follow the Box” forms. We will need plenty of forms so bring back your handout from last Sunday. Just follow what Scotty tells you to do on the video. See you Sunday for the packing party.

We began the evening with horseback riding and artistic face-painting; we then enjoyed smoked beef, chicken, salmon, and pork for dinner; after some dance instruction, we danced the night away with some country dancing; and finally, we celebrated a birthday and toasted marshmallows to made S’mores. It was an event packed with fun activities, good food, and great fellowship. Thank you to the Braskamps for hosting, and thank you to everyone who attended and made this year’s hoedown a success!

Last year, our small church set a lofty goal of preparing 100 shoes boxes for the ministry Operation Christmas Child. We exceeded that goal by about 20 boxes. In November of 2010, a group of us went to the Denver OCC processing plant and not only had a blast, but saw this ministry in action. We saw and touched thousands of boxes intended to spread the gospel to children around the globe through the simple act of a Christmas gift.

In 2011, Jane (who passionately helps our church support the OCC ministry) raised the bar. She asked Living Hope to prepare 200 shoe boxes in the year 2011! Since this would have been quite an undertaking for one Sunday in November, Jane organized “Christmas in July”, a day of packing boxes to ease the burden from November. Competitions quickly ensued: Family vs. family and Cross+Gen vs. Career/College.

July 24, 2011 arrived with tables and table of items to fill the boxes; Living Hope had taken the challenge seriously. Johnny D. even coorinated the singing of Christmas carols to put us in the spirit of the season. After breakfast, everyone started to fill boxes, and then started to stack them on the stage. And they really began to stack up!

When all was said and done, we counted about 170 boxes!!!!!!! And we’re not even to our November deadline yet! (Which basically means Jane has raised the bar even higher for Novemeber: 300 boxes; but we think we may even succeed that!)

After all the boxes were packed and stacked, we laid hands on them and prayed for each child who would receive the boxes. It was a powerful and inspiring event, and we are looking forward to November.

Things to keep in mind for November:

1) KEEP SHOPPING!!!

2) KEEP PRAYING!!!!! Remember, we see boxes. God see’s the child’s face who will receive each box.

3) Oh, and KEEP SHOPPING!!!!! Buying things little by little over the next few months will help build the inventory of items we can pack in the boxes. Check out the school items as they clearance out, and be on the look out for great deals.
