Who We Are

Pastor Dave CollinsI have lived in Tucson all my life. I graduated from Catalina High School in 1984, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Operations Management and MIS from the U of A in 1990. Since then I have worked in the field of Information Technology as a network administrator and technical trainer. I have considered myself a Christian since I was a kid. But it was during the mid 1990s when Jesus, in an abrupt and not-too-subtle way, got my attention and suggested that I begin to take my faith seriously. From that point forward He began teaching me what it means to be a Christian. I spent a few years floundering under the law, wondering how I could ever measure up to the high standards He set. But through a strange sequence of events He showed me what it means to live under Grace instead of the law. Since then I have begun to relinquish more and more control of my life to Him.

Little did I know this was His way of preparing me for some life changes. In September of 2006 I earned a Master’s Degree in Theology (MAT) from Fuller Theological Seminary with a major in Biblical Studies and Theology. My passion is in learning and teaching the Word of God. I am one of God’s T.A.s – as He teaches me life lessons, He gives me opportunities to pass that learning along to others. At Living Hope I get to do just that – learn God’s life lessons with a community of believers I love to be with.

Facebook-20150131-070416I was born and raised in Tucson.  I went to school in the flowing wells district.  After high school, I lived in Flagstaff for four years and attended NAU where I majored in Philosophy.  I then lived in Los Angeles while I completed my Masters degree at Fuller Theological Seminary.

My family is the most important thing to me.  I met my wife Nicky in Anaheim at Disney: California Adventure while there with some other Fuller students.  We’ve been married for three years.  We have one daughter and are expecting another child soon.

I felt God calling me to be a pastor on a mission trip in Mexico while in the church youth group.  Since then I have been following God and combined have over 14 years of ministry experience working with kids, youth, adults, and seniors in over nine church contexts in Tucson, Flagstaff, and Los Angeles.  I feel extremely grateful to be serving at Living Hope Community Church.  I love my job!

JOHNNY DEGNAN, Worship Leader

Johnny DegnanHello!  I am a Tucson native, born and raised.  I grew up in Oro Valley with my amazing mom and dad, and sister Alyson.  I was part of the first graduating class from Ironwood Ridge in 2004, and afterward I got my Associate of Liberal Arts from Pima Community College in 2006.  I got my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education in 2008, and I have been teaching at Butterfield Elementary School for almost 2 years now.   I have dabbled in a bunch of different activities:  flag football, Frisbee golf, cycling, regular golf, running, and soccer.  When I’m not teaching or playing music, you can likely find me at a coffee shop or book store reading.

I grew up going to church at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, and my family and friends there have been absolutely instrumental in mentoring me and shaping me into the person I am today.  God truly blessed me in many ways there, and through my experiences there, He was preparing me for the journey I am so excited to embark on here at Living Hope.  I am blessed to have many wonderful and loving friends here at Living Hope, including Pastor Dave and Justine, who taught my 5th grade Sunday school class!

In the past few years God has really been opening up my eyes and teaching me about what it means to live everyday for Him.  God has given me a passion for singing and playing music, and my biggest desire is to give that passion back to Him each and every Sunday.   I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, and worshipping our wonderful Lord together!

DUANE ETTER, Church Administrator

Duane Etter

The short story of my life is that I was born and raised in a farming community in Iowa.  After graduating from high school in 1963 I did a tour in the Air Force were I was a computer operator.  Later I met my wife Dee, and went to college, graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Business with a concentration in accounting.  I made a career as a Recruiter and Manager in the staffing industry, specializing in accountants & bookkeepers.

A tragedy in my life showed me the way God can be there when you need him, even when you don’t believe enough to ask.  He sent people to us from our church – people I didn’t know, but that didn’t stop them.  They knew God.

My walk with Jesus started in earnest when we attended St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucson, where I served as a Deacon, spent four years on the Personnel Committee, and regularly participated in the Thursday Morning men’s bible study.  Dee was also a Deacon and our children were part of the Sunday School.  Our daughter, Whitney, learned from Dave & Justine Collins.  As things changed we spent a few years “church hopping” till God let us know about Living Hope Community Church.  LHCC has allowed me to feel that my walk with Jesus is taking some steps forward.  I feel the fellowship and teaching sermons at LHCC give people a Christian community where they can learn God’s message in a comfortable supportive environment.

DIANE GALE, Corporate Treasurer

Diane GaleI was born and raised in Grand Junction, CO, but relocated to Tucson with my husband Butch. We’ve been married for 30 years and have three children: Chad, Chelsie, and Cortnie. Our daughter Cortnie and her husband Lyle have two beautiful boys, Ryker and Tanner. Our daughter Chelsie and her husband Kevin gave us a beautiful new Granddaughter named Addisyn. And our son Chad has recently become engaged to Nicole.

I was raised in the Presbyterian Church in Colorado, but I didn’t seek a personal relationship with the Lord until about 15 years ago.  I continue to grow in his word and am always overwhelmed with his love for me.

We’ve lived in Tucson now for 24 years. After we moved here we started attending St. Andrews Presbyterian Church which is where I met Dave & Justine Collins.  They taught our kids in Sunday school.  When Butch and I heard Dave might start a church we were very interested in being part of that. We both have learned so much these past years from Pastor Dave.

I should also add that my family and I are HUGE BRONCO fans.  Butch and I try to attend at least one game a season in Denver (and other places if close by).  I like to give Pastor Dave a hard time about him being a Dallas Cowboy fan, but all in fun.  GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
